The Boot Camp military style of fitness training is very big at the moment with residential and non-residential courses springing up all over. The appeal of these seems to be that most of us lack a bit, or a lot, of will power when it comes to making ourselves do regular exercise, no matter how good we know it is for our health. We like someone to get us up and get us moving and who better to do this but two ex British Army Soldiers.

My friends and colleagues Robert “Boris” Stone and Chris “Billy” Smart, (you can tell they’re ex-army can’t you, over 30 years between them), have been running residential fitness boot camps, military style, for some time. Not only this, the Internet means anyone, anywhere, can now join in the fun of the Boot Camp training run by “Boris” and “Billy” in military style, whether you have attended a “live” boot camp or not.

The sessions give clear instruction and demonstration for you to watch on computer, iPod, iPad or even phone. So you can take the videos with you or watch and practice at home then take a training sheet out with you to remind you what to do and track your progress.

One of the main points Boris is keen to get across in the training is to get outside, whatever the weather, you don’t need expensive gym memberships or home equipment. You’ll see Boris and Billy using trees and park benches for exercises and if equipment is suggested it is cheap and easily available or a no equipment alternative exercise is shown.

Thursday 27th May, on the BBC’s 5 Live, Facebook’s Richard Allen, Director of Policy in Europe was interviewed about privacy by presenter Stephen Nolan. Stephen was tough with his questioning, as he should be, but not as tough as some of the callers citing actual experiences with Facebook privacy issues.

Richard Allan was there to discuss recent privacy settings simplifications as announced by Mark Zuckerberg but the biggest issue seemed to be under age use of the site.

I once had a video taken down by YouTube. Viacom had said that the music was their copyright, so YouTube had just taken it down without even contacting me until it was gone. I had filmed the video myself and used royalty free music from my video production library (and certainly not Viacom). I was told I had to show it was not violating T&Cs. So I read the below story and others like it to come out recently with interest.

The U.S. District Court has just made public the documentation in the controversial Viacom vs. YouTube case. It’s a goldmine of data, most of which is really dirty mud-slinging by Viacom, based on internal emails from YouTube’s past. Link to original story

Samuel Ryder Biography Book

I just launched a website for my friend and author Peter Fry titled “Samuel Ryder – The Man Behind The Ryder Cup“. Peter is a golf enthusiast and has managed courses in the past as well as many other roles in sports and sporting activities. His book, for sale on the site, is a biography of Samuel Ryder and is particularly welcome in this Ryder Cup golf tournament year, 2010. The site is a fairly basic one made with a slightly modified fee theme, blog and shopping cart facility to sell the book. WordPress of course.
